Journaling Our Changes

Seasons change, people change and we have to change no matter how difficult it feels or seems. Of course we are all creatures of habit and change can be scary to us and the day to day rituals that we follow. In times when we need to make an adjustment and manage the fear that come with this, journaling can be a good tool to help us see clearly and to fortify our minds to the shifts that are taking place and the changes we need to make.

While scary, change can also be an exciting time in our lives. It offers an opportunity to start anew and perhaps to take a different path. Our journals can guide us along this new path and help to first create the necessary transformation in our minds. As we write our change, we affect the subliminal and subsequently the actions we need to take in order to make the changes.

In our journals we can explore all the questions we may have about changes. Some questions we may ask ourselves are: How will this change be beneficial to me? What will be different when I make this change? What are the risks involved? What is the process involved in making the change? Are there going to be tangible results? Hopefully, dealing with these issues in our journals will bring the clarity needed to move forward and to make intelligent decisions.

Journaling and life’s changes can go hand in hand.

Journaling About Pleasant Memories

Journaling can be serious business but it can also be fun and rewarding. When we think of good memories we get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Our journals provide us with a way to relive the pleasure of these memories. We can reminiscence about the good old days and write down these recollections.

Apart from manipulating these recollections for our maximum gratification, mental recollections can be beneficial for practical purposes. It may be necessary to get relevant information from our memories that can help us to explain present day events. Or the recollections may be useful in helping us to come to terms with something that happened in the past so that we can move forward in the present. Even happy memories can hold very profound truths.

Pleasant memories lay in all the corners of our minds just waiting to tumble out. If we allow them to, we can experience all sorts of happiness and the beauty of a journal is that the memories can be relived over and over again. Not only are we reliving the memories as we write them down but we can relive them by rereading what we have written.

At times when we don’t feel on top of the world, we have memories to draw on and make us feel better.

Journaling As Quiet Time

Journaling is about ourselves and the things that affect us. Because of this, it’s logical that we can use our journals as our quiet time to just be with ourselves. It’s a chance to get away from it all and meditate. If we have stress or any other issues in our lives, journaling helps to centre us.

Finding our centre is important because it’s a chance to gather ourselves and our heads and to get to that place where we can reflect on where we need to be. What is keeping us from where we need to be? How can we get there? These are questions that our journals can help us to answer. And the answers that we find can take us to a different place – hopefully to a place that is a little more peaceful and tranquil.

Journaling in itself requires that we move away from the hustle, bustle and noise so that we can hear ourselves think. This is both a literal and figurative move. We need to make the shift in our minds but we need to physically find a quiet place where our thinking is not impeded by distractions. When we put pen to paper, we are in fact already in reflection mode. We can enhance this experience by being in the right place – a quiet place.

Today let’s get away with our journals, find a quiet place and calm our minds and write.

Journaling as a Conversation Without Judgement

One of the great benefits of journaling is that we can write anything we want and there will be no biting criticism, no sermon from the pulpit, no disagreement, and no veering the conversation away from what we want to talk about. What could be more freeing than this lack of discord? The only confrontation that takes place is with us. Sometimes we have enough conflict within ourselves without getting more stress from others.

In a sense, our journals have some of the qualities of a best friend. That’s someone who listens attentively and can help us to see things in an objective light somewhat like a journalist who can give both sides of the story without bias. Disapproval and sermonizing can only lead to inhibitions about what we really want to say. Of course, this is not what we want. Fortunately, reticence about our feelings and thoughts do not come into journal writing.

When we write our thoughts down on paper without fear of judgment, we can truly analyze our thoughts and speak our truths. And this is the whole point of recording the accounts of our lives. With this knowledge, why not have a stress free dialogue with your journal?

Journaling About Traffic Headaches

Traveling in traffic can be a nightmare especially when we are coming from a hard day at work. Maybe our stress level from the nine to five added to the traffic stress will have us gnashing our teeth. The problem is, getting mad will not make the traffic better in the days ahead. The solution will be found in how we manage our stress level in a constructive way. A journal can assist in managing our stress levels.

We can write down how we feel while in a traffic jam. Perhaps we’ll see the absurdity of pounding on the steering wheel and all the other crazy things we do. Recording our reactions will also give us a sense of release and make us feel better. This is the place where we can write the stress out of the system if only for a temporary time. But we need a permanent solution and the process of thinking about the problem and putting pen to paper can provide solutions.

Permanence lies in planning. On paper, we can prepare ourselves for a different reaction in traffic. What are some things we can do to pass time more patiently? What can we do to keep a cool head? It may be that we can listen to soothing CDs, or motivational talks, or we could listen that audio book that we have been meaning to listen to but did not have the time. A journal can allow us to see that a traffic jam can be a time that can be beneficial and we can do practical things with this time.

Alternative thoughts and actions can be found in journal writing.

Journaling to Improve Self Trust

Journaling is not just about writing down the accounts of our daily lives; it can be interesting conversations with ourselves. And of course it is crucial what kinds of discourse we have with ourselves and hence, our journals. When we write in our journals we usually look inwards and so we make a deeper connection with ourselves. We have all faced self doubt sometimes but writing about it can really bring clarity and insight to the matter. More importantly, writing about it can build confidence in our own abilities and judgment.

Here is where we can take stock of what makes us special. We have had doubts but we have also had past accomplishments where we were determined and where we dealt with pressures and challenges. What we write in our journals should reflect more of our inner confidence to succeed and to overcome the obstacles to achieve our best. The conversation with our journals is similar to a friend telling us that we can succeed. But this is much more powerful because it’s coming from the inside. Nobody can build us up like we can.

Sometimes it doesn’t even mean that our doubts are totally gone but it means that the process of writing has helped us to keep a level head. In this way we have manipulated our anxieties to the point where we appear confident and courageous to others who might even comment on this. We also start to believe in our new directions when we exert this optimistic influence over ourselves.

Self worth is thought out and it is acted out and all of this can begin with what we write in our journals. We should all start a conversation with ourselves today that will give us the mental acceptance and conviction in the validity of who we are and what we can do.

Journals as Our Personal Coach

Most of us want to keep fit and active. Along with eating right, keeping fit is an important part of staying healthy. But to most of us this is hard work and to compound the problem, we simply do not have the time. Honestly, we can find time for the things that we really want to do. We could use our journals to motivate us to get with the program and stay fit the way that a personal coach would do.

How would we do this? Firstly, we need to think about the things that we want to achieve. We will write down the fitness goals that we have; the time frame in which we want to achieve them and the program we plan to use to get there. Writing these things down give them power and makes them real to us. This means that we take ourselves seriously. A goal that is written down is more likely to be achieved.

Once we start to follow the fitness program, there might be setbacks. This is when we can go to our journals and talk about the setbacks. We can examine the cause of obstacle and take stock of how we can get around it the next time. Then let it go! The journal is useful now to reaffirm our intent to get back on track. This is what personal coaches do. They help us focus and keep us motivated. They tell us that we can do this and so should our journals.

Our journals will also help us to keep track of our progress within the time frames that we have set for ourselves. We can rethink the time frame and the methods that we are using to suit our efforts and to help us reach our readjusted goals. With our journals nothing is static. Everything is dynamic and serves to service us just like a personal trainer will change the prescribed plan to get us to our fitness goals.

Today let’s use our journals to get us moving, to inspire us and attain our health and fitness goals.

Journals as Writing Tools

Writers write and the more we do it the better we become at it. It’s like they say practice makes perfect. When we write in our journals we may not be doing our official writing but the act of writing constantly can sharpen our minds and our thought processes. So when we come to the writing that we do for publishing, we will have unconsciously honed our skills a little.

We can also consciously use our journals to develop our skills as writers. We can try out different writing methods and see which one is best for us. This is where we can try a writing technique that is not usually our style. Who knows, we may find something that could possibly enhance our writing and make our stories that more exciting and meaningful. The great thing about our journals is that we can try these things with ourselves before we allow anyone to see our finished products.

Our journals may also have great story ideas in them and so we can use our own past experiences as research. Think of all the places we have been, our thoughts and impressions on events close to us and far from us, stories told to us by strangers and family members and just the events of our everyday lives. We have some of this written down in our journals and this record can be used as fodder for interesting stories. Rereading our journals can take us back to a particular memory and all the feelings that surround that memory and make for powerful fiction or nonfiction.

Let us look at our journals as more than just static records and see them as tools to sharpen our skills and as a library where research can be done.

Journaling About Dreams and Goals

We all have dreams and goals. As human beings we aspire to achieve the dreams that we have for ourselves, we aspire to self actualization. Until we do something about our dreams they remain just that – dreams – fleeting and distant. Dreams are meant to be chased. We need to take them from the conceptions in our heads to action and physical reality.

So we need to not only talk about the dream but we need to write them down. This is action on paper that can lead to a self fulfilling prophecy because the written word is a powerful spiritual tool. Our journals then become the facilitator of not only our thoughts but the ways in which we intend to achieve our dreams. When we write our dreams down they gain weight and become more real. The act of writing is a call to commitment. We have said to ourselves that we can do this, and we will do this.

On paper, in black and white, we have put our dreams out into the universe. The universe has a funny way of giving us what we ask for. Simply writing down our dreams does not mean that’s all we have to do. We have to work hard. However, writing them down means that we have taken ourselves seriously enough to give our dreams energy that will lead to more cooperation from the universe.

A dream written down is a dream that is more likely to be manifested so write them down.
